Embroider your own Meme Workshop
Embroider your own Meme Workshop Sunday 9th & 16th December, 1.30-4pm Memes are a great way to poke fun at our own culture and stereotypes through the internet. This workshop pokes fun at, and celebrates the phenomenon of the meme. It is something that can so easily be generated via websites that no one has to think twice. Embroider your own Meme reclaims the medium of needlepoint by dreaming up, and hand designing a work to be embroidered and displayed on the wall, next to your computer. Each person in the workshop will design their meme and prepare this unique design for embroidery. We will discuss methods of displaying and shading various illustrations, and the pros and cons of several different stitches. During the two session workshop, we will also work on, and complete our embroidered memes. However, due to time and the varying complexity of designs, some pieces may need more work at home. Eleanor Cardwell comes from Australia with a cert 4 in Graphic Design and Dip Applied Fashion Design from TAFE NSW. She has a history of running short, creative workshops like “bad fashion” at youth events. She also loves to work with fabric and textile manipulation to create works that reflects on the world around her. You are welcome to come with an open head, ready to brainstorm new ideas with provided images. If you do already have a great image or idea you would like to use, please feel free to bring it along to the workshop to work on and share. *Image and embroidery shown by ‘handmade stuffs’ Date: Sunday 9th & 16th December, 1.30-4pm Level: All Tutor: Eleanor Cardwell Course length: Two 2.5-hour session Class Size: Max 9 People Fee: $65.00 for both workshops.
