Mata Mata is a collaborative project between artists Rangituhia Hollis and Vaimaila Urale. The artworks are based on Pacific gestures of clapping, performance and mitimiti.
Working across cultures, these artists transmit their Maori and Samoan cultural heritage in innovative ways. Through digital media-based works, viewers can become involved through sound, facial recognition and touch. The works also feature real-time video, digital animations of 3-D characters and choreographed footage of the performers.
