Auckland's Q Theatre to host Documentary Edge

The Documentary NZ Trust is excited to announce its new venue in Auckland for the 8th Documentary Edge Festival. Q Theatre (The Loft and Rangatira) will host the festival in April next year with both spaces screening more than 50 documentaries from NZ and around the world.

Documentary Edge’s director Dan Shanan says, “We are ecstatic about the new partnership with Q Theatre which will bring the festival back to Auckland CBD. Q is an amazing venue for performance arts and we are proud that Documentary Edge will be the first film festival to explore the use of Q Theatre as an edgy moving image showcase. We cannot think of a better home for documentaries and fine films.”

Q Theatre Chief Executive, James Wilson, adds “We are thrilled to be working with the Documentary Edge Festival in 2013- the festival is a fantastic showcase of stories, ideas and experiences, and we’re looking forward to seeing our spaces used to present this medium.”

The first announcement of films selected for the 2013 edition will be made next month. In the meantime, directors Dan Shanan and Alex Lee promise that the programme will continue its tradition of showcasing the best of the most recent documentaries.

In May, the festival will travel to Wellington. Once again, Reading Cinemas Courtenay and iconic Film Archive will host the festival.

Alongside the festival, the 7th Screen Edge Forum will be held at AUT University's new state of the art WG learning complex. Located at the corner of Mayoral Drive and Governor Fitzroy Place, this extensive and impressive complex includes a 12-floor tower, a plaza, glass atrium, and a green quad.

Screen Edge Forum is an annual international Film, TV and All Media industry event focused on innovative ways to create and fund screen productions. It includes seminars, panels, master-classes, and a pitching forum.
