Female Company presents... AGNES OF GOD

Female Company presents Agnes of God

Agnes of God

Directed by Luke Thornborough

and Nicoley Eichstaedt

Sex, religion, logic and murder. Female Company presents their debut show this December – the gritty and controversial play Agnes of God.

In 1976 Brighton, New York, police were called to a quiet convent, where a nun was found bloodstained and shocked, and in her waste paper basket - the deceased body of her newborn son. What followed was a controversial court case that brought into question the faith and compassion of all those involved.

Based on the true story of these events, Agnes of God captures the struggle of three women – the Court Psychiatrist, the Mother Superior and the young nun herself – as each attempt to find a balance between faith and reality.

Directors Luke Thornborough and Nicole Eichstaedt are stripping the play right back to its core; to expose the depth and drive behind these three characters. Minimal set and simple staging means the play relies solely on the power of the characters and the talent of the actors to propel this powerful piece.

“What we both believe about Agnes of God is that the human story outruns the murder-mystery; in the end the play is an exploration of what it means to be humane.”

Female Company is dedicated to strengthening female presence in the theatre community. Agnes of God is a bold theatrical piece for these powerful females to burst onto the stage.
