Award-winning octet V8 Vocal Ensemble specialises in a cappella eight-part harmony, and sings a wide repertoire of music from classical motets to joyful pop arrangements.
V8 welcomes in the festive season with delightful songs to fill you with good cheer. The sound of jingling bells and sleigh rides conjuring images of a winter wonderland with Santa on his way. Beautiful settings of the Christmas story, people gathering to greet the new-born King and rejoicing in his birth.
In the December 15th concert, V8 presents music by the King’s Singers, Bob Chilcott, NZ composer David Hamilton and more; with spirituals, madrigals, English and Irish traditional carols and jazzy toe-tapping swing, together with arrangements composed for this concert by V8’s own Robert Wiremu and Timothy Noon. Come hear joyful song in the Holy Trinity Cathedral’s intimate Chancel setting, and have yourself a merry little Christmas!

Recent highlights for V8 Vocal Ensemble include debuting with the NZSO in the Auckland Festival in March 2011, featuring in a master class with the famous British vocal ensemble The King’s Singers, presenting an ANZAC concert series in Auckland and Tauranga featuring cherished songs of our NZ troops from WW1 and WW2, and are hoping to record these poignant songs in the near future.
Robert Wiremu joined V8 as Artistic Consultant in early 2012. The Vocal Coach for University Of Auckland's School of Music and widely accomplished musician and singer brings his considerable expertise in vocal sound and musicianship to the group, including bespoke arrangements for the eight-part vocal group.
The Auckland-based V8 Vocal Ensemble began in 1998 and most singers are past or present members of the NZ National Youth Choir and Voices NZ. V8 presents their own concerts and performs at festivals, concert series and private events, and features regularly on TVNZ's Sunday morning 'Praise Be' programme. V8 celebrated its 10th anniversary concert in 2008 and has released two CDs of favourite a cappella music: 'Gallery' in 2007 and 'Christmas' in 2009.
