Help Crowdfund Africa Fashion Festival New Zealand
Africa Fashion Festival to Take New Zealand by Storm
Pinaman Owusu-Banahene, the founder of Africa Fashion Festival, is bringing Africa Fashion to New Zealand (Auckland and Wellington) in May 2015 through her social enterprise, ADJOAA which she founded in 2011.
Born in Accra, Miss Owusu-Banahene has been living in New Zealand for 12 years and holds Masters in Public Policy and a Bachelor of Health Science degree.
‘‘I am passionate about fashion but more importantly using fashion to create social change. I believe fashion, music and dance are great art forms that enrich our experiences and challenge our deep-seated assumptions, in particular about the Continent of Africa" she says.
"Kiwis will be able to experience the cultural richness and incredible artistic talent from the diverse and vibrant continent of Africa through Africa Fashion Festival."
Miss Owusu-Banahene's campaign aims to promote emerging and established African designers in the Australasian region by helping to expand their commercial reach. Exposure from the campaign will assist these designers to contribute to economic development in Africa through job creation and capacity building.
Miss Owusu-Banahene has launched a Spark crowd funding campaign to raise the funds needed for Africa Fashion Festival. There is potential for Spark Foundation to match donations dollar for dollar and Miss Owusu-Banahene says that every cent donated to the campaign will go a long way to benefit young Africans in New Zealand and across part of Africa through three initiatives - mentorship, creative internships and book clubs - her Social Enterprise will be supporting in collaboration with participating African designers.
Supporters will be rewarded for their generous donation to her campaign – with rewards such as meet and greet with designers, tickets to fashion shows and after parties. The crowdfunding campaign ends in 12 days short, make a donation to support this amazing project.
