Into the Sunshine

14 Sep 2018 to 4 Oct 2018
10 - 4:30 Monday - Saturday
An exhibition celebrating 125 years of women's suffrage
Event type:
Yvonne Rust Gallery
Quarry Arts Centre 21 Selwyn Ave Whangarei

The 19th of September 2018 marks the 125th anniversary of women’s suffrage in New Zealand. We are celebrating that momentous occasion, and how far we’ve come since then. From the original suffragists fighting for their rights to having a say in the running of the country, to Jacinda Ardern, New Zealand’s first pregnant Prime Minister… women are going from strength to strength!

We have invited artists to respond to and interpret this wonderful subject in their work, and join us for a group exhibition. From painting and printmaking, to embroidery, sculpture and ceramics, we’ll revel in the diversity of talent and ideas around this liberating topic.

Opening event Friday 14th September from 5:30pm.

Participating artists include Angela Rowe, Kelly Pretty, Sally Spicer, Jane Whiting, Ali Goodman, Alice Astell, Linda Sabbage, Jane Cunningham, Christine Cook, Valerie Hunton, Helen Beech, Paul Harris, Helen Hughes, Di West, Joan Emery, and more.

The Quarry Arts Centre is a unique hub for Northland's creative community. Situated in a disused quarry in central Whangarei, the Quarry Arts Centre is a home to artist studios, a ceramics store, a community kiln, hire-able rooms for pottery and art, a delightful little cafe, and two galleries.
