Marie Potter - SURVEY6/35
SURVEY6/35 will showcase Potter’s innovative and thought provoking works, created over the last 6 years of her extensive 35 year career. SURVEY6/35 will also highlight the artist’s fascination of the expressive qualities of a found object (objet trouve), that it has its’ own language, one that has the ability to disseminate rituals and traditions connected to a particular cultural value. Her unique work creates a meta-language, a language within a language, one that can immortalise social and cultural history.
Potter will conduct public conversations sharing her practice philosophy, its origins and influences. She will support students studying art at local colleges and government initiated art courses. The artist believes art has the ability to inspire across all generations allowing relationships of practice and experience to be established, not being ruled by politics or age.
Her work will embrace the genres of assemblage, installation, sculpture, photography, TEXT and writing in her survey exhibition, including work from 2013/14 post MFA Re-emerging solo travelling exhibition; 2014 Wallace Awards; 2014 National Contemporary Art Awards; 2014+15 N.Z.Pacific Studio Residencies; 2015 Aratio /N.Z.P.S.
