VR DANCE / a new way to experience dance
We’ve all seen dance films on screens, phones and laptops; attended live shows with others - sat in the audience; in the front row...
VR DANCE takes you a step closer – to get within inches of the dancers, be transported with the dancers in the movement, to faraway locations, to be surrounded and immersed in the movement….
VR DANCE hoodwinks your senses into believing you’re somewhere else - it’s magic! Filmmakers are all scrambling to figure out how to tell stories in it. Created by Ed Davis, DANZ has two opportunities for you to experience VR DANCE and be part of the story!

Shakespeare’s Sonnet 43 by Anita Hutchins
A VR dance experience presented in Shakespeare Globe Centre NZ’s Dance Nimble Soles; a celebration of Shakespeare in dance.
Wellington dancer, teacher and choreographer Anita Hutchins has created movement based on Shakespeares’ Sonnet 43; a sonnet of antitheses, seeing and not seeing, day and night, shadow and form, dark and bright, dead and living. In this sonnet the shadows seem to flicker and in the end one enters a dream world which is as real to the poet as the world of absence from which he strives to escape. The days become nights and nights days, and the natural order of things is inverted and confounded.
Anita Hutchins studied at the Royal Ballet School, London where she graduated Top Female Student. She has danced with Bayerisches Staatsballet Munchen, Netherlands Dans Theater II, Royal New Zealand Ballet, and has worked with Jiri Kylian. Anita was the winner of the hugely successful So You Think You Can Dance TV show in 2006.
