Doc Edge returns to Auckland and Wellington for the 14th International Documentary Film Festival in 2019, showcasing the best documentaries from New Zealand and the world.

For 2019’s film programme, Doc Edge brings together some of the year’s most popular and groundbreaking documentaries. World festival favourites screen alongside celebrations of whānau and fearless wāhine, investigations of crime & conspiracy, explorations everyday life and artistic excellence, and much more.

Doc Edge is an Academy Award qualifying film festival. From 30 May – 23 June, Doc Edge’s 2019 selection brings something for everyone – from doc lovers to first-timers. Q Theatre and The Roxy remains the heart of the Doc Edge Festival. Additional screenings, exhibitions and industry events will be held at the Auckland Art Gallery, the Ellen Melville Centre (Auckland), Light House Cuba and Te Auaha (Wellington).

In addition to film screenings and Q&As, the Festival runs the following events:

Doc Edge Schools: Free screenings programme during Doc Edge Festival to connect school students in with documentaries.

Doc Edge Goldies: Free screenings programme for seniors.

Doc Edge Forum: An industry event that brings together local and international film, TV and other media professionals. It offers seminars, panels, masterclasses, networking opportunities and Doc Edge Pitch, a documentary pitching forum for short and feature films and TV series.

Doc Edge Exhibition: A free to attend showcase of interactive storytelling projects featuring top international and local VR, AR, installations, and digital stories.
