Windswept Slam

A hilarious picture claiming that 1 in 5 Wellingtonians have experimented with poetry
19 Jun 2019 to 17 Sep 2019
Nau mai, haere mai. Welcome to the coolest little slam in the capital
Event type:
Literature, Live event, Show
The Black Sparrow
Under the Embassy Theatre 10 Majoribanks Street Mt. Victoria, Wellington

We are so proud to present a new friendly, inclusive space for poets to come together and share their work. The winners of each of these four slams will go through to the Wellington Regional Final at the National Library in November.

THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS SLAM POETRY. All poems and poets can take part in this fun format. The point is not the points, the points are just a bit of fun.

19 June, 16 July, 27 August, 17 September
7pm for a 7:30pm start ⏱ Koha entry - 16+
Share this event with your friends, bring your community.
Our amazing co-host and venue The Black Sparrow have food and special themed cocktails to sustain you.

FOR PUNTERS: This isn't the poetry you learnt at school. It's alive. It's fun. It's relevant.

FOR POETS: We'd love to hear your work. Give us an email to sign-up at kiaora@motifpoetry.co.nz

This is a 3 round slam, so please bring 3 poems just in case, all 3 minutes each or under. We like to keep things fair, and since our poets are given a random order before the start of the show, if you want to participate you have to be there before we start. No props, no costumes, no music, reading your poem from a paper or phone is fine and don't forget the cardinal rule, don't be a dick.

The Black Sparrow has step-free access from Kent Terrace when you come in through the Embassy theatre doors and through the tunnel.
