This class offers the opportunity to learn the techniques to produce intaglio etchings using zinc plates. As this medium is a techinical process involving grounds, acid and ink, tutor Lisz Bodsworth's main focus with beginners is to familiarise them with the main procedures; hard ground, aquatint for tone, open bite and soft ground. Tools and knowledge are provided but students come along with their own ideas and compositions. There is always a lot of excitement for beginners when that first image is run through the press.
Those attending the class who are already experienced in Intaglio etching expand their skills and knowledge by learning how to combine etching with other printmaking ideas - monoprints, collagraphs and relief printing for example.
