LIGHT SKIN DARK SKIN - by Abhi Chinniah

22 May 2020 to 14 Jun 2020
11:30 to 14:30 Tues to Sun
Event type:
Art, Exhibition, Public Art
The Upstairs Gallery
Level 1, Lopdell House, 418 Titirangi Road, Titirangi, Auckland

In collaboration with the Auckland Festival of Photography, we are delighted to open LIGHT SKIN DARK SKIN by Abhi Chinniah.

This exhibition is around Colorism and the real-life experiences of brown women.

"My main focus is women who are minorities, as I am a woman who is a minority. There is so much more to us than the colour of our skin and I want this exhibition to tell this story. That even with all the odds stacked against us, we rise, we accomplish and we succeed."

Gallery Hours during Level 2:
Tuesday to Sunday 11:30am to 2:30pm

As per Government regulations, we will be pleased to welcome you all back to enjoy our exhibitions. We do however have to adhere to strict regulations in order to ensure that our guests and staff are safe. The general rule is to ‘play it safe’ and we plan on doing just that.

These are the additional precautions we're taking to follow government guidelines so you can enjoy a safe visit to the gallery:

  • Regular cleaning of all door handles, chairs/benches and bathrooms
  • Removal of hard-copy brochures
  • Limiting the number of visitors entering the gallery spaces at one time
  • Contactless pay systems in the shop
  • Hand sanitiser is available in the gallery

On arrival, we ask all visitors to leave a few contact details with our staff, in accordance with the government’s contact tracing guidelines. We also ask visitors to please refrain from handling any items in the shop during browsing. Should you need help please ask at the desk.

We will be limiting access to a maximum of 8 visitors in the gallery space so safe distancing of 1m is maintained. If the gallery becomes too busy to maintain distancing, we may ask you to wait outside until there is more space.

If you’re feeling unwell, please stay at home.
