Wood Carvings is an exhibition of wood sculptures created by John Hutchings who has lived in Manurewa for some fifty years. Since a young age John developed a passion for working with wood. He learnt the art of carpentry from his father who was a carpenter for the BBC in London, England. In his spare time John would make furniture for the family home and create some of the detailed wooden sculptures that can be seen in this exhibition. The works are mostly crafted from totara and reflect John’s quirky look at life. The Hutchings family are proud to share their father’s work with the public and hope that they enjoy them as much as they do.
