Inspired by Italio Calvino’s short story ‘The Distance of the Moon’, Lunar State is a devised theatre piece, developed over 3 seasons by Lunar Collaborative. The piece speaks to the disconnection between humanity and the environment and makes the audience question whether the true value of our existence be actualised under a capitalist lens or is it time to look deeper? Employing humour as their mode of delivery Lunar Collaborative unpacks the indigenous value of taking something from the earth and the consequences of industrial greed. All images are from the Rangatahi season with Te Pou, shot by Ben Sarten and video excerpts shot and edited by Varun Chaurun.
