LIPIKA SEN AND PRABHJOT MAJITHIA
THE BELGADIA PALACE ART RESIDENCY EXHIBITION

In 2019, Sen and Majithia completed an art residency supported by the Asia New Zealand Foundation at The Belgadia Palace, in Mayurbhanj, Odisha, India.  Whilst living in the 200-year-old Palace with erstwhile royalty, they experienced encounters and characters from the monsoon drenched Mayurbhanj, which breathed life into their creative practices.

Included in this exhibition are two works that emerged during the residency. Inhaling Mayurbhanj is a series of sculptures conjured from the earth with rocks, grit, twigs and set in motion. Lost City is a sensory, interactive sculptural installation, inspired by the 14th century terracotta ruins of Haripur.  This work aims to harness the deep connection that humans have with their ancestors for their mental wellbeing.
