Celebrating its 30th Anniversary, Shakespeare Globe Centre New Zealand (SGCNZ) is delighted to be a part of WHAT IF THE CITY WAS A THEATRE? Encouraging audiences to rethink the limits of public space. This programme presents an invitation to take to the streets, and experience internationally acclaimed free arts performance in the places you least expect it.
Presenting Will on Cue - a series of 10 of Shakespeare’s plays, each edited to between 45 and 60 minutes, over the three weeks in February, performed in site specific spots around the city. The presenters will introduce the play and then provide passers-by with cue-scripts to have fun with the Bard.
Proving that Shakespeare transcends the ‘whirlygig of time’, residents from Malvina Major Retirement Village and Wellington Shakespeare Society will begin with scenes from The Merry Wives of Windsor. The other plays will be Julius Caesar, Henry V, King Lear, Antony and Cleopatra, Cymbeline, The Merchant of Venice, Hamlet, The Tempest and King John. SGCNZ’s participation in The Performance Arcade’s What if the City was a Theatre, with its series of ten pop-up Shakespeare performances entitled Will on Cue throughout February, is the first its year of 30th Anniversary celebrations.
