Basking by Madison Kelly
Madison Kelly (Kāi Tahu), an artist and Orokonui guide will lead workshops suitable for participants with any level of drawing experience. An Ōtepoti-based Basking hub exhibition, workshop and hui space will also be open for the project’s duration. Basking welcomes communities to learn about local mokomoko, make their own habitat tiles, and develop long-term, lizard-friendly habitats in their suburban gardens. The mokomoko habitat tiles made throughout Basking will create ‘productive grounds’ that serve both functional and poetic roles in suburban conservation culture.
Basking exhibition hub: 13–26 April 2021
Basking drawing workshops: 17 and 24 April 2021, 10am-11 30am and 1pm- 2 30pm
at Orokonui Ecosanctuary, 600 Blueskin Road, Waitati
