LEARN. CREATE. CONNECT

Doc Edge Forum is an annual industry event that brings together local and international screen industry. It offers seminars, panels, masterclasses and networking opportunities.

The 2022 Doc Edge Forum will be a hybrid programme of live and online events to accompany Doc Edge, International Documentary Festival 2022

The Forum will be held in Auckland on
18-19 June at Media Design School, CBD
22 June at EMA Conference Centre, Grafton

Doc Edge Forum is the first major screen industry conference in Aotearoa in 2022 which celebrates the opportunity for our documentary community to meet in person together. More than ever after being in lockdowns and attendance restricted traffic light settings, Doc Edge is ready to launch its industry and festival events live together with streaming events to enable others from around the country to also participate.

This year’s Forum programme promises something for everyone including the state of our documentary industry, the future of funding and innovation exploring NFTS, blockchain and DeFI technologies, the mastery of archival storytelling, discussion of how to increase Māori and indigenous participation in the factual and documentary space, authenticity and identity, how to create an Oscar-worthy short and practitioner well-being. We are also fortunate to have two masterclasses from Dame Gaylene Preston and world acclaimed Kiwi editor Maya Daisy Hawke respectively.  Here is an incredible list of festival and industry guests gracing the festival.

The Forum also explores XR projects, and we talk to creatives about their work.  Twenty four of the world’s best XR projects are included in our exhibition this year.

Doc Edge Forum was set up as a centrepiece to highlight the documentary sector and discuss the issues, challenges and opportunities it faces. We believe in the need to remain strong and connected and therefore, we are also launching the Doc Edge Academy, which is a member community for documentary practitioners and their supporters.  Join the Academy and be part of our documentary whanau.  Members will enjoy incentives and opportunities such as:

• discounts and offers from Doc Edge partners
• invites to special member events, training, and advice
• access to Doc Edge training videos and materials
• advanced bookings and registrations ahead of the general public
• concession tickets to Doc Edge Festival
• concession tickets to Doc Edge Forum

The Forum will feature the Doc Edge XR Exhibition with 24 of New Zealand and the world’s best VR/AR and immersive storytelling projects together with talks by leading practitioners in this area, including acclaimed Kiwi practitioner Raqi Sayed with her project Minimum Mass which featured at the 2020 Venice Biennale.

1-Day and 3-Day Passes include morning/afternoon teas and lunch. Concessions are available for industry guild members and students.

The Forum will also stream live worldwide, so anyone can attend by purchasing a 3-Day Virtual Pass.
