Luna Leo Lee | What A Time To Be Alive

At Dung Beetle Space 3/6-10/6

With an opening event Fri 3rd June, 6PM

Pursuing joy is a radical act. What A Time To Be Alive is an examination of the energy and intention necessary to navigate the overwhelming messaging of late-stage capitalism while fighting to regain and retain joy as a queer, neurodivergent person.

Join us for the opening of Luna's exhibition at Dung Beetle Space. Made possible thanks to Arts Whau and the Whau Local Board.

Luna is an intuitive creative making abstract art and useable objects to bring joy and playfulness to the everyday. Their work is an extension of their queer identity, neurodivergence, and their sense of place as an immigrant.

They explore a sense of push-pull by using structure, repetition, and instinct; a blend of stimming and synaesthesia to quell anxiety and encourage delight. They strive to evoke feelings of joy, safety, and freedom in their work and aim to be the bright, queer, neurodiverse light they want to see in the world.

Luna grew up in California, where their late father owned a small gallery. They briefly attended Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle, USA but found the structure unforgiving to both their creativity and mental health. In 2017 Luna fled the US with their spouse to build a new life in Aotearoa. They now live and work in Tāmaki Makaurau.

Luna uses they/them pronouns. You can find more of their work at
