The Hocken Collections, Uare Taoka o Hākena, is an Archive, Research Library and Art Gallery with a nationally significant collection. Established in 1910, the Hocken holds over 10km of archives, 17,000 artworks, 2 million photographs, 200,000 books, plus maps, music and ephemera with a focus on New Zealand, the Pacific and Antarctica.
Free tours: Wednesdays at 11am and 2pm. No bookings required.
A changing exhibition programme featuring items from the collections runs throughout the year.
