Alaudiae (Vocal Trio)
London based Vocal Trio Alaudiae met at the Cardiff International Academy of Voice, and formed subsequently while developing their careers in opera with companies including The Royal Opera, English National Opera and Welsh National Opera among others. Alaudiae (descending from the Latin for lark) is three fifths kiwi, with sopranos Carleen Ebbs and Claire Egan hailing from Hawkes Bay and Gisborne respectively, and mezzo Miranda Westcott is from Devon, England with NZ grandfather from Whanganui.
As trained singers, Alaudiae are maintaining their classical roots but blur the usual boundaries and conventions of a classical music aesthetic, to directly celebrate song. Alaudiae create bespoke and thematic programmes, performing vocal music from unaccompanied chant, to French melodie, to unexpected arrangements of modern day hits with instrumentalists, and currently are particularly enjoying baroque and folk music.
Check out our new videos, taken from an informal recording session at Antenna Studios in Crystal Palace London. The traditional song Black is the Colour was arranged for us by Jane Egan, a musician living in Gisborne, and Sing For Your Supper is a fun close harmony number by Rogers and Hart from the musical “The Boys from Syracuse”. We hope you enjoy our latest offerings!
