Backbone is a series of ceramic boxes which depict a cross section of a mountain range near Wanaka, New Zealand. Backbone is about my resolution to reduce waste both in my home life and studio. It is the hope that many small steps will amount to substantial change. The boxes which make up this work are made using waste clay and glaze collected in my studio over the year. This keeps it out of the landfill and waterways and as a bonus the clay gains character from the additions, with texture and colour bursting out.
