At the end of 2016 nine creatives were invited to produce new works of art inspired by objects from the Otago Museum’s textile collection.
Three Cups of Tea Ceramics artists Elise Johnston and Karen Taylor O'Neill chose the 1970's Swanndri garment from the museum collection as their inspiration. Using a latex resist glazing technique 5 large ceramic jars were clothed in the iconic Swanndri chequered pattern. Parallels between the functional design of the garment and of the ceramic objects have been made by the inclusion of a group of cups hanging on the wall in a fashion reminiscent of a 1970 kitchen.
