Media Release – For Immediate Release
SPECIAL STORYTELLING SHOWCASE TO SHARE EXPERIENCES AROUND IDENTITY
NEW ZEALAND COMEDY TRUST, AUCKLAND COUNCIL, FLICK ELECTRIC CO. & THE SPINOFF PRESENT
HOSTED BY JACKIE VAN BEEK
Identity is unique for everyone. We all have our own experiences around our heritage, our upbringing and where we feel we fit within our community. This year at the Comedy Fest a special showcase will unpack the concepts of identity with a collection of artists sharing their stories in Dialogue: Identity at Q Theatre on Friday 19 May at 8.30pm.
With Auckland being home to the fourth most diverse population in the world, some exciting local minds will come together to reveal their ideas on identity. Drawing from a rich tapestry of experiences, the diverse panel of comedians and special guest artists will offer up their funny and poignant stories, hosted by actor, comedian and director Jackie van Beek.
This year’s storytellers includes Comedy Fest comedians James Nokise, Chris Parker (Camping, No More Dancing in the Good Room), 2016 Best Newcomers Fan Brigade and 2017 Billy T nominee Angella Dravid; guest musicians Randa and Tourettes, Spinoff writer and performer Sam Brooks.
A unique show in the Comedy Fest programme, Dialogue: Identity exploring the intricate nuanced whole of our human experience. Light-hearted moments and quirky anecdotes will be woven together with vulnerable moments and crafted narratives. They may be moving, or dark, or sweet, or a mix of those things, but one thing is certain; each story will be powerful and will have you laughing.
Dialogue is a NZ Comedy Trust initiative that was launched in 2016 as part of the NZ International Comedy Festival powered by Flick Electric Co., aimed at developing honest, genuine storytelling, and sharing experiences. After a hugely successful showcase last year hosted by Michele A’Court that focused that celebrated women, this year’s theme is around celebrating the wonderful range of identities in Auckland.
Bringing people together to celebrate our perspectives, recognise collective experiences, and grow understanding, the showcase promises to be an evening full of unexpected hilarious and possibly emotional moments, yes comedy can get you right there sometimes.
