The NZ Art Show is pleased to announce Emergent 2018, a section at the 2018 NZ Art Show that will showcase New Zealand art students.
Heading into its 15th year, the NZ Art Show is New Zealand’s largest curated art sale of New Zealand art and showcases thousands of artworks by hundreds of New Zealand artists. The 2018 show will take place over Queen’s Birthday weekend, June 1 – 4, with an opening Gala Evening preceding the show on Thursday, May 31. Ticket sales and artist applications are now open via the show’s website www.artshow.co.nz.
Emergent 2018 will showcase up to 40 artists who are either currently studying toward a degree or diploma in art or recently graduated from a recognised New Zealand art school,
The show’s Executive Directors Carla Russell says that Emergent 2018 will celebrate the fine work that New Zealand’s art schools do to foster artistic talent in Aotearoa.
‘It’s imperative that art students are recognised and celebrated on a national stage,’ says Russell. ‘They have received reputable art training and are New Zealand’s true emerging artists’.
Russell says that the show is a unique opportunity for art students to exhibit on a national platform and share their work with thousands of art enthusiasts.
‘Art students should view the NZ Art Show as a next step to realising their art goals: the show is a gateway to further opportunities.’
In addition to the exposure they will receive at the show, all artists exhibiting as part of Emergent 2018 will be eligible for the 2018 RT Nelson Emerging Artists Awards, four prizes of $2,500. This award was established in 2012 by Wellington businessman, art collector and philanthropist Richard Nelson in order to spotlight the talents of artists in the emerging stages of their careers.
The Emerging Artist Award has proven to be one of the NZ Art Show's greatest successes; since the award's inception in 2012 the award has increased in popularity with the show's patrons. For astute collectors, one of the first ports of call at the show is the show's emerging artists’ gallery; participants are now regarded as hot property and they enjoy successful exposure and sales.
Artists can apply for Emergent 2018 through the show’s website – www.artshow.co.nz. Ticket sales and artist applications for the 2018 show are also open via website. Artists are urged to apply early, as spaces ran out for the 2017 show.
