We are thrilled to announce return of The Young & Hungry Ambassadors’ Programme.  Initiated in 2007, the Ambassadors’ Programme was created to provide students from schools in the Greater Wellington Region with the opportunity to attend a range of theatrical performances, back stage tours and arts workshops throughout the school year.

This year, 24 students from 13 different secondary schools will attend over 20 performances across a variety of venues in Central Wellington.  The students will see a range of performance art including drama, opera, ballet, modern dance, musical theatre and comedy.

Thanks to the generous sponsorship of Wellington City Council and Young & Hungry Arts Trust, as well as kind contributions from all our theatre industry partners - BATS, Circa, Downstage, Capital E, NZ Ballet and the Royal NZ Opera - all programmed performances, tours and workshops are FREE!

“During our Young & Hungry Ambassador Orientation the students met at the new Toi Poneke ARTS HUB and participated in a series of information sessions and venue tours.  The Ambassadors learned about the various pathways and resources available to them in the arts, and their response was overwhelming.  Watching these young people, as they begin to realise the possibilities, is truly exciting.”  says Young & Hungry Programme & Partnerships Manager, Alec Wheeler.

In exchange for this fantastic opportunity, there is an expectation that Young & Hungry Ambassadors will report back to their schools on their experiences and encourage their peers to experience theatre for themselves; if not as active creative forces, then as appreciative and discerning audience members.

Young & Hungry Ambassadors are also required to write and submit at least three show reviews throughout the course of the year.  These reviews may be used to promote the shows and some reviews may be selected for publication on the web and/or in local news/arts publications such as Theatreview.co.nz.

So watch for these future creative forces, on stage, behind the scenes or in the seat beside you!

Young & Hungry is a charitable arts trust that promotes youth participation and development in the performing arts.
