Auckland Museum is an influential, much-loved organisation at the centre of Auckland’s identity, committed to developing and sharing engaging content through its galleries, exhibition, events and educational programmes.
 
An opportunity exists for a highly motivated Outreach Programme Coordinator to join the Museum at an exciting time of redevelopment and renewal. 
 
The Outreach Programme Coordinator role is responsible for facilitating the work of the Museum outreach team through coordination, administration and delivery support. The post holder will work closely with the Museum Programme Coordinators to ensure the overall smooth running of all learning and engagement programmes. The post holder will also work across collections as is appropriate, and contribute to the outreach, digital programmes and master planning.  The role is as varied as the working environment and will require enthusiasm, warmth and flexibility. 
 
To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • General office administration/coordination experience is desirable.
  • Strong passion for New Zealand material culture and history/natural history.
  • Knowledgeable about learning within a museum environment.
  • Event management experience is desirable
  • Relevant qualification is desirable.
  • Good working knowledge of MS Office, in particular Word and Excel.
  • Working knowledge and broad familiarity with current trends and events in popular culture, museums, youth, Maori, and Pacific communities.
  • Collection management and basic object conservation skills are desirable.
  • Awareness of learning resources used within similar education and/or group leisure events and/or programmes.
  • An understanding of legislative requirements pertinent to the museum including the AWMM Act 1996.
  • Understanding of the principles and practice of the Treaty of Waitangi, and the implications of this for the policies and strategies of the AWMM.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours, including evenings, holidays and/or weekends.
