Squidwig Theatre are looking for supporting cast for Put It In My Blowhole, our Fringe play about a man and a mermaid having a baby. Cast must be available for evening rehearsals from mid-January, through to our run at BATS from the 21st-24th of Feb. There may also be some promotional commitments involved. We’re looking for enthusiastic people keen to help us breathe life into a fairly outlandish script.

N.B. Some explicit scenes will be required, so please make sure you’re comfortable with the portrayal of  mermaid/human relations on stage.

Auditions will be held in Newtown.

About the play:
Vee and Hamish didn’t expect to fall for each other. But she loves his hairy man legs. And he loves her slippery mermaid fins. They just couldn’t help themselves. Now their forbidden union has defied nature and spawned an egg.

Banished from the ocean for their sins, Vee and Hamish are cast into the deep end of parenthood. Is Wellington ready for this unnatural family?

Three people to play a variety of male and female supporting roles, including:
Oldoris (Vee’s father), a vet, an immigration caseworker, a door-to-door salesperson, TV news crew, etc.

We also require puppeteering skills to operate a baby.

These are adult roles so applicants should be over 18.

Key skills

Acting experience, comfortable in live theatre environment.
Not afraid of explicit material.
Willing to commit to all rehearsals.
Own transport ideal, but not compulsory.
