Fixed term contract for nine months

Every day, more than 2.5 million New Zealanders turn to TVNZ for their entertainment and news. They watch our channels, TV ONE, TV2, U, Kidzone24 and TVNZ Heartland, not only on their televisions, but also over the internet and on their PS3s and smart TVs.

Our TVNZ digital team are the ones creating and delivering exciting new ways to experience, enjoy and interact with your favourite shows. We’re inspired every day by the possibilities of bringing you our programmes and stories now and in the future.

Q+A seeks heavyweight political interviews that “stimulate, provoke and inform”.

Our long form interviews are challenging and rigorous, intelligent and sceptical, thoroughly researched and done without fear or favour so that viewers can make up their own minds. We ask questions that demand answers and we persevere until we are satisfied the audience has them.

Our funding and purpose requires us to provide content that is “currently difficult to find on our screens”. This is no excuse to be dull or complacent, but it’s also inexcusable to be anything but in depth.

We are seeking a skilled Producer to research, interview subjects and provide background for interviewers. To contact, invite, arrange travel for guests and panel members and develop political contacts. To create set-up pieces - filming interviews or using existing footage - and cut clips for panel discussion or interview use. On Sunday, you’ll greet guests and edit transcripts. You’ll also be monitoring news media for interview ideas and research material, as well as writing and editing content for Q+A webpage and new media.

You’ll need an extensive knowledge of news and political journalism and an in depth knowledge of media law is a must.

Applications for this position close 31 January 2013. And, of course, all applications will be treated in the strictest of confidence.

Television New Zealand/Te Reo Tataki is committed to a policy of Equal Employment Opportunities.
