As a leading contemporary art organisation, it is Artspace's mission to produce and communicate challenging and inspiring art experiences. This involves continually adapting to new and diverse audiences and trying to engage ever growing and ever developing groups in the appreciation of the visual arts in a meaningful and sustainable way.
In recognition of this, Artspace is teaming up with Tautai Contemporary Pacific Arts Trust to offer a new Education Internship, focused on the development of potential audiences of all demographics, and in particular the strengthening of Artspace's relationship with Auckland's Pacific community.
In their role, the Education Intern will foster an education programme that encourages interaction with local schools, and primary, secondary and tertiary students in Auckland with particular emphasis on reaching and engaging Pacific students at these institutions.
While working with staff on current and on-going operational business, the Education Intern will generate new content and projects tailored for a growing youth audience and its engagement. The intern will be expected to learn from and intelligently work with the young people in the ongoing improvement of workshops and events.
Artspace will provide the facilities, training and ongoing supervision for the intern to work four days per week. The intern will also be guided by external mentors, chosen as leaders in the fields of education and/or arts.
The successful applicant will be the 2nd of 3 Education Interns. This is a part-time role of 30 hours p/w with a fixed-term contract of 9 months, commencing mid January 2014.
For the right person this is an opportunity to build a wide set capabilities including experiencing first hand the running of a public gallery and building a rich understanding and confidence of working with artists and engaging students in the appreciation of the arts.
To apply candidates must have: An undergraduate qualification in Visual Arts and/or Education (minimum), An awareness of the contemporary arts scene, Enthusiastic about education, Knowledge of Pacific culture and of local Pacific community.
