Key Tasks

To assist the Auckland Manager and Auckland Publicist, as directed, in the following tasks and other duties as required:

Audience Development Auckland

  • In consultation with the National Audience Development Coordinator, programmers and publicists, identify areas of special interest for Auckland groups within the programme. The National Audience Development Coordinator will liaise with groups in the rest of the country. This will involve working with them and devising strategies for Auckland 
  • Update databases of business and community contacts. You will use various methods to collect this information (online research/phone/email/personal connections).
  • Communicate with database contacts via phone, email, mail and in person. Establish contact and ascertain their responsiveness to films that may be of interest. Manage valuable relationships with key influencers
  • In consultation with the National Audience Development Coordinator, assist with developing and managing direct marketing materials on particular films or groups of films to distribute to appropriate businesses, community groups, retail stores, libraries etc. Assistance with direct marketing materials will be available from volunteers
  • Send key information (films/session times/groups discounts) as early as possible to business and community contacts. Work with groups to encourage cross promotion and sharing of information through their networks. Process ticket purchase requests
  • Ensure that contact with groups and individuals complies with the unsolicited electronic mail legislation
  • Maintain an action plan of groups targeted, information disseminated and sales outcomes
  • Arrange screenings from time to time (as directed by the Director) in conjunction with the Publicist. Manage invite list of key influencers as appropriate

 Publicity Assistant 

  • Contact websites re NZIFF information to go in their listings/what’s on sections
  • Contact street press – pitch stories/interviews and action
  • Contact entertainment websites – pitch stories/interviews and action
  • Keep media database updated at all times
  • Keep accurate database of all publicity materials
  • Distribute screeners/EPKs to reviewers/media (and ensure timely return of materials)
  • Assist the Guest Liaison Coordinator to prepare itineraries for each guest prior to arrival in Auckland. Keep an updated draft itinerary on the shared dropbox files 

Desired competencies, qualifications and experience

  • A strong interest in and knowledge of international film culture
  • Entrepreneurial approach to networking
  • Competent and confident phone skills with the ability to cold call in a warm and engaging way
  • Excellent communication skills – both written and spoken
  • Methodical and enterprising research habits
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Adobe software (Photoshop, InDesign).
  • lnternet savvy with an understanding of online media
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to manage colleagues and volunteers to ensure projects deliver on time
  • Sound knowledge of office equipment and functions
