The Environmental Issue

Submissions close July 31st

THE VERNACULARIST is an evocative new journal celebrating arts and culture in Aotearoa, New Zealand and internationally. Issue three ‘The Environmental Issue’ is now in production and you are invited to contribute to it.

Notes on the theme: 'The environment' is an expansive theme intended to include (but not limited to) articles about physical, cultural, social and ecological environments. Original writing, artwork and poetry (and other content suitable for print) exploring, investigating or expressing ideas, concerns, associations about/with the environment will be considered for this unique publication.

About the submission process: Be honest, be creative, write as yourself. You do not have to be an expert or an academic to contribute. Every submission is reviewed in confidence with priority given to original articles of relevance to the theme of the issue (the environment), to the vernacular and interest to the reader.

Guidelines: All content must be original (you must own the copyright) and be accompanied by a 2-3 line bio about you as a contributor.

Written submissions should not exceed 1200 words. You are encouraged to include images to accompany written work. All styles of writing are considered.

Images should be large enough for print (300dpi).

Photos should be accompanied by captions or titles along with the date and/place created. Social/snapshot/vernacular photography is accepted (e.g. images from social media platforms)

Artwork should be accompanied with the title, medium and any other relevant information.

Artwork and writing created specifically for the publication will take priority over work created for other intended purposes.
