New Zealand Pacific Studio invites applications for a three week R.A.K. Mason Writer’s Fellowship. The purpose of this Fellowship is to explore different literary forms or genres and their potential. It is named after one of New Zealand’s foremost writers, R.A.K. Mason, in honour of his intense energy, commitment to literature and his later concern for the ways in which different literary forms inform each other.
NZ Pacific Studio welcomes writers working in, or across, literary genres in interesting ways. While in residence, Fellows will provide readings and may also help facilitate discussions or a workshop that explore the potential of literary forms with others.
Selection will be based on the nature and strength of an applicant’s proposed project and the degree to which they would benefit from the Fellowship. Fellows can be at any stage in their creative ‘careers.’
Please e-mail Programme Manager, Jodie Dalgleish, with the following: 1. Your biography. 2. A description of your proposed project and any specific requirements you may have. 3. When you would like to be in residence (flexible). 4. A statement of how the R.A.K. Mason Writer’s Fellowship would benefit you and extend your practice at this time. 5. A sample of your work (no more than 2,500 words). 6. The contact details of two referees whom we will contact if you are shortlisted.
Applications close midnight Sunday, 30 November, 2014.
Dates of residency are flexible and open to negotiation, but, if possible, would occur between 1 March and 31 October 2015. If your project requires you to be in residence at a specific time, please make this clear in your application.
Apply by e-mail to Jodie Dalgleish, Programme Manager, NZ Pacific Studio, email@example.com.
The R.A.K. Mason Fellow will be in residence for three weeks at the historic Kaiparoro/Normandell House in the Wairarapa. Accommodation is free during this time (it is normally charged at a weekly rate of $300 per week plus $25 for local transportation).
The successful Fellow would need to cover their travel costs and buy their own food while in residence. In addition, they should bring necessary equipment and supplies with them, or liaise with the Programme Manager about purchasing them once in residence. The R.A.K. Mason Writer’s Fellowship is available to an individual. An applicant is welcome to propose a project of more than three weeks in duration, but accommodation and transportation costs beyond the sponsored period would have to be met by the applicant.
This Fellowship is kindly sponsored by local supporters, Chris Hunt Daniell and Derek Daniell.
Commitment to one's own practice and an interest in making connections
