As a stepping-stone into arts administration, this role will provide opportunities to learn and experience all aspects of gallery practice within a contemporary and experimental project space environment.
Position: Gallery Administrator
1 Year Fixed Term: 24 hours (3 days per week)
Hours: Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, including some evenings and weekends (openings, board meetings and events)
Location: 16 Dowling Street, Dunedin
Reporting to: The Director
Remuneration: $16 per hour
Based in Dunedin, Blue Oyster Art Project Space exists to enable emerging and experimental artists, writers and curators to work free from commercial restraints. For 15 years our organisation has aimed to broaden engagement with contemporary art by providing a diverse and energetic forum for critical dialogue around a yearly programme of exhibitions, projects, events and publications. We are supported by Creative New Zealand and the Dunedin City Council, along with a range of other sponsors, funders, patrons and supporters in and around the Dunedin community.
The Gallery Administrator is responsible for assisting the Director in realising the strategic vision and goals for the gallery and for enabling individual artists to generate high quality and critically engaging projects. This role would suit someone who has an education in the arts and is interested in pursuing a career in contemporary art. Working in a gallery or similar environment with a range of artists, writers, curators and the public, the role centrally provides opportunities to use and gain new skills in the running and administration of the gallery, with room to develop and extend on your own interests alongside these main tasks.
