Hours: 10:00 – 4:30 (24 hours per week / days negotiable - the gallery is open 7 days with the help of volunteers.)

The Upstairs Art Gallery is a small not-for-profit charity community art gallery based in Titirangi's historic Lopdell House in Waitakere, West Auckland. We open 12 exhibitions throughout the year covering all mediums, all artistic skills, all ages, and all community groups. (It is important to note that we are a separate organization from Te Uru Waitakere Contemporary Gallery which is also housed within the precinct. We operate independently with separate management, arts programmes, funders and sponsorship).

This position means you need to be able to do 'everything' ... you'll organise exhibitions, events, marketing, social media, advertising, fundraising, finances, managing a terrific team of volunteers, etc...

We’re looking for:

 Essential Skills: (you will be asked to give examples of these skills applied in your previous work)

  • Strong people skills with the ability to build relationships with community, government bodies, volunteers, artists, tourists and visitors.
  • Ability to work independently
  • Shows initiative
  • Creative (for publicity and social media purposes)
  • Able to make decisions based on strong business acumen

NOTE: An arts background is useful not essential

Preference will be given to those who are able to assist in as many of the following functions as possible. (There is a volunteer workforce with an assortment of skills, to work alongside the successful applicant): Project Management, Sales, Public Relations, Networking, Curating, Advertising, Website Development / Management, Human Resources, Financial Management, Funding, Reporting, Maintenance, Meetings.

Salary will be discussed at time of interview, relevant to the applicant skills and experience. We are also open to considering fixed term contracts.
