Creative Waikato was established in 2012 to support the development of the creative arts in the Waikato for the benefit of the greater community.
The Creative Waikato Vision is Creativity in Everything - the Waikato has a thriving and distinctive creative sector and our communities treasure its essential contribution to our lives.
The Creative Waikato Purpose is to strengthen, develop and invigorate the creative sector in the Waikato for the benefit of all.

Governance of Creative Waikato is vested in a Board made up of seven to nine elected trustees.
Trustees are appointed through an annual appointment process for a three-year term, are eligible for re-appointment, and can serve a maximum of nine consecutive years on the Board.
Appointed Trustees cover the following areas: Māori, regional representation, various arts sectors, gender balance, professional arts and community arts. The Board also ensures it has combined expertise in governance experience, thorough knowledge of the arts sector, strong networks and financial skills.
The Board operates to a proficient governance standard and is well supported by the very capable Creative Waikato management team.
Particular skills/competencies sought
The current Board is looking for expressions of interest for one position that will be available from June 2016.
The ideal candidate will have
- governance experience or aptitude
- well-developed general business skills appropriate for a governance position
- particular expertise in either professional or community arts
- regional connections
- a commitment to the vision of the Trust
Commitment required - ie meeting frequency and duration etc
Meetings are held monthly, plus a commitment to committees, workshops, annual strategic planning sessions, and occasional events as required, and regular communication by email. Monthly meetings are held on Friday mornings, in Hamilton, and are scheduled for 2 hours. Applicants are welcome from across the Creative Waikato region.
The position is voluntary, but travel expenses are reimbursed.
