Use your curatorial skills and knowledge to make an impact in Manawatū
Work with the community and colleagues to develop amazing exhibitions and other programmes
Te Manawa is one of New Zealand’s most exciting cultural institutions – a ‘museum without boundaries’.We seek to unearth and care for the treasures, creativity and stories that celebrate our unique place in the world. We amplify possibilities through partnering with thought-leaders, change-makers and supporters to generate exciting programmes, fresh thinking and new approaches
You will have qualifications or skills in Art or Art History with relevant industry experience and a generous understanding of cultural heritage. We are looking for someone with the abilities to work as part of a creative team; for someone who can balance their aspirational thinking with prudent and pragmatic practice. If you have a proven facility to successfully manage collaborative activity and partnerships, an awareness of how people and their worlds are changing and the power to identify exciting fresh approaches, this is the role for you.
This role is central to the research and development of interactive and engaging concepts and programmes in the broad area of arts and humanities. Art or Art History may be your specialist subject but the job involves working across all of Te Manawa’s varied collections and disciplines.
You will be part of the Concepts and Engagement team and work alongside our other Programme Developers. Key collaborative relationships will be with collection managers, concept creators, designers and other contributors including artists, writers, technologists, scientists, performers, puppeteers etc. and relevant institutions and organisations such as museums and art galleries.
Your primary goals are to ensure programmes are relevant to the local community, well planned, that best use is made of resources and that a quality product is delivered. Evaluating programmes to ensure that continuous improvement opportunities are identified and acted upon is essential.
Te Manawa is in Palmerston North, a city that thrives on discovery and innovation. In the heart of Manawatū, we engage with over 160,000 visitors annually. Te Manawa developed exhibitions are also enjoyed at venues around Aotearoa, New Zealand. A diverse team of more than 35 people bring our museum to life every day.
