The Fulbright-Wallace Arts Trust Award is for an outstanding mid-career or senior New Zealand visual artist to undertake a ten week residency at Headlands Center for the Arts in Sausalito, California. One award valued at US$24,000 is granted each year, towards a ten week artist residency.

This award is offered in partnership with the Wallace Arts Trust as part the annual Wallace Art Awards, the longest surviving and largest annual art awards of their kind in New Zealand which aim to support, promote and expose New Zealand contemporary art and artists.

The residency will run in either the American Spring or Summer of each year, with the recipient based at the Headlands Center for the Arts in Sausalito, California.

How to apply
  • You must complete and submit the application form on the Fulbright New Zealand Website by the application deadline*;
  • You must also submit all required support documents and an electronic portfolio to us by the application deadline;
  • Interviews will be held in Auckland. Fulbright New Zealand will pay the costs of travel to Auckland only for applicants residing in New Zealand. Applicants outside New Zealand who are unable to attend an interview in person may be disadvantaged;
  • The successful applicant will be announced at the Wallace Art Awards ceremony in Auckland.

* Note that if the application deadline falls on a weekend or public holiday, the deadline is extended to 5:00pm on the next business day.
