Independent Contractor Position

Tauranga Art Gallery is currently celebrating its 10th anniversary. As one of the youngest public art galleries in Aotearoa, this is the perfect time to join the team and make some amazing things happen in the country’s fastest growing city. With over 85,000 visitors in the last reporting year, you have an opportunity to help us create some exceptional art experiences and explore the exciting potential a role like this might bring.

The Gallery is owned and managed by Tauranga Art Gallery Trust, which provides governance and strategic direction to ensure the future sustainability of this $10.6 million equity asset. The programming and all operational aspects of the Gallery are determined by the gallery Director in collaboration with the Tauranga Art Gallery staff.

The Trust Board is seeking the services of an arts and culture business development professional. As an independent contractor, this person will report to the gallery Director and work with the Board and staff to identify and negotiate new business partnerships, sponsorships and generate alternate funding capability. The Contract for Services has a clear mandate to assist the gallery Director and ensure the gallery’s revenue targets are met and that commercial partnerships deliver intended mutual benefits.

The Contractor must have a thorough understanding of the national arts and culture sector, have established commercial and benefactor networks and be able to evidence substantial revenue generation and business partnership achievements.

An important requirement of the Contract for Services will be the design and establishment of systems and operational processes of sponsorship and business development functions that enhance gallery administration and staff management and ensure robust performance monitoring and reporting.

A generous monthly retainer will be negotiated and a performance bonus could be available for exceeding agreed business goals and revenue targets.
