About Doc Edge Festival
Doc Edge is an Oscar-qualifying and Australasia’s premiere international documentary film festival. Held annually in Wellington and Auckland, the Festival showcases the best films from New Zealand and around the world. The Festival includes a Gala Film Awards, Doc Talks, Docs 4 Schools, Q&A sessions, Corporate Hostings and other events.

The 13th Doc Edge Festival will be held from 9 May to 4 June 2018.


General Description of your Duties:

This is a contract for services for a specific term. The Festival Producer will work with the team to deliver Doc Edge Festival and its associated activities including Opening/Closing nights, Doc Edge Film Awards, Doc Talks, Corporate Hosting and special events.


The ideal candidate will be a self-starter and enterprising. S/he will have:

  • Project management/production and marketing experience
  • Experience of having worked in a festival environment
  • Experience with venue operations and ticketing
  • Effective planning skills, along with attention to details
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, tight deadlines and to work effectively under pressure
  • Understanding of the technical production requirements for film screenings
  • Sound practical understanding of modern Workplace Health & Safety Principles
  • Excellent research, analytical and writing skills
  • Familiarity with MS Office and Survey Monkey
  • Excellent communication/interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team
  • Ability to think outside the box
  • A high level of self-motivation and enthusiasm
  • Knowledge of documentary and storytelling would be an advantage


The appointee will:

  • Produce the Doc Edge Festival and associated events including curating events that will enhance the festival programme which may or may not involve other 3rd parties
  • Assist and support Doc Edge Directors with all aspects of the festival
  • Liaise with the venue partners and sponsors
  • Manage and coordinate designated staff, interns and volunteers
  • Oversee Festival Ticketing and Box Office operations
  • Manage all event and production contractual requirements
  • Publish and promote Doc Edge Festival information in all appropriate channels
  • Coordinate and work with other Doc Edge staff and interns in relation to promotion, marketing, publicity, joint activities and mutual support
  • Support funding applications
  • Maintain existing and develop new partnership channels
  • Maintain a working knowledge of Documentary NZ Trust and a personal commitment to its goals and objectives
  • Written and oral reports as required
  • Assist with other tasks as may be allocated by the Trust
