The Wairarapa Arts Festival Trust (The Trust) is responsible for running the biennial 10 day Kokomai Creative Festival across the region. We bring a mix of high quality, local, national and international events to the Wairarapa for locals and visitors to enjoy.  Our current Festival Director has been with us for 6 years but it’s time for her to explore new opportunities, thus giving The Trust the chance to restructure our team to suit the current artistic and economic environment.

We are looking for a Festival Director with knowledge and networks in the creative arts scene to be responsible for developing our festival programme. You will be able to demonstrate a successful history in artistic direction of significant events, and the ability to build knowledge and appreciation of the arts across a diverse community. You’ll be responsible for, providing key advice to the Trust Board and working collaboratively across the team. Your ability to build relationships across key stakeholders and sponsors will be essential, with demonstrated success building and maintaining positive relationships with iwi and in building linkages with other creative organisations both nationally and across the Wairarapa.

In addition to the important role of programming Kokomai, we are interested in hearing more about your event management or general management experience. Particularly in the areas of event planning, operations, fund-raising, volunteer management, budgeting, contracting, relationship management, marketing or health and safety management.

This is a fixed term role that is critical to the festival’s success and we are in the fortunate position of being able to shape the role for the right person and their experience. The hours vary with the peaks and troughs of a festival season, so this position would suit someone looking for flexibility and ideally located in the Wairarapa.

How to apply

If you believe you have the skills outlined above, have a passion for the arts and an interest in building the creative scene in the Wairarapa – we would love to hear from you.  For all questions and information in the first instance such as the role outline, please contact Jenny at jenny@kokomai.co.nz. To apply please email your CV with a covering letter by 5pm on the 25th March.
