The Enjoy Public Art Gallery Trust is seeking a highly motivated Chair to lead the Trust's advisory and strategic activities, working within a small, dynamic and committed team. Applicants will have previous leadership experience within the sector and a drive to support the development of contemporary art in Aotearoa.
The Chair will need to be committed to their position and will lead the development of the Enjoy Trust. The Enjoy Trust governs and oversees the strategic development of Enjoy Public Art Gallery and works closely with staff. As such, the Enjoy Trust ensures that Enjoy continues to develop in line with its mission and vision.
The Enjoy Trust respects and strives to incorporate Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles and broader diversity concepts within our decision making and leadership methodologies.
The Trust consists of seven Trustees with a strong structure and six long-standing members. This is a voluntary part-time position for a minimum of 3 years. The Chair will be expected to offer several hours a week to Trust matters as required during their tenure, including chairing monthly Trust and staff meetings and undertaking professional development. When required the Chair will also be required to publicly represent the views of the Enjoy Trust at a governance level.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Previous experience working in the visual arts or within an arts organisation
- Experience in governance and/or management
- Strong facilitation skills
- Financial comprehension and capability
- Excellent communication skills – both written and oral
- Proven track-record with successful funding applications
- Strong organisational skills
- Demonstrated conflict resolution skills
- Project management experience
Established in June 2000 as an artist-run initiative, Enjoy Public Art Gallery is now widely considered as one of the leading contemporary art spaces in Te Whanganui-a-Tara Wellington, Aotearoa New Zealand. Over the years Enjoy has exhibited a number of highly respected artists such as the Mata Aho Collective, Simon Denny, Mikala Dwyer, Tanu Gago, Bridget Reweti, Ann Shelton, Angela Tiatia and Pati Solomona Tyrell.
Enjoy generates and facilitates contemporary art projects to promote the discourse of contemporary art practice in all its forms.
Enjoy is liberated from commercial constraints in order to provide both emerging and established practitioners with opportunities to develop innovative work. Enjoy works to provide the necessary critical support, resources, and audience development to realise quality projects in dialogue with contemporary practice both nationally and internationally.
