Research Grants
The CLNZ/NZSA Research Grants support New Zealand writers by providing assistance to those undertaking research for a fiction or non-fiction writing project. Four grants are awarded annually:

  • Three Open Research Grants - $5,000 each
  • One Stout Research Grant - $5,000 PLUS a six-week residential fellowship at the Stout Research Centre at Victoria University.

Writers’ Award
This $25,000 award is open to writers of any genre of non-fiction, including writers of education material. The award enables the successful applicant to devote time to a specific writing project.

Contestable Fund Grants
This year, $75,000 is available to support strategic projects that demonstrate New Zealand publishing sector growth. The amount you apply for is up to you, with the number of successful recipients varying each year depending on the individual merits of the applications received.
