The Molly Morpeth Canaday Award is one of New Zealand's longest running and most vibrant national contemporary art awards. 

The 2019 Molly Morpeth Canaday Award - Painting and Drawing has more than $20,000 in prize money for emerging and established New Zealand artists. The Major Award winner will take away $10,000, while the Akel Schulte Runner Up Award-winner will receive $4,000, and $2,500 will go to the winner of the Craig’s Investment Partners Youth Award.

The award exhibition is presented by exhibition partners Whakatāne Museum and Arts and Arts Whakatāne, and is shown at Te Kōputu a te whanga a Toi - Whakatāne Library and Exhibition Centre.

How to apply

BASIC ENTRY INFORMATION:
Entrants may submit up to two works each. The entry fee is $40 per entry.
Entrants will be asked to provide standard artist and artwork details (including artwork title, medium, dimensions, and sale price) 
One to two digitals images of each work must be uploaded. 
Optional: All entrants have the opportunity to provide an artist statement (100 words maximum).

Preliminary judging is carried out digitally by three judges working independently. Following this, finalist works will be called in for exhibition. The guest judge (to be announced) will select award winners from this selection. Award winners will be announced on opening night (16 February 2019).
