Selwyn District Council Digital Residency
Selwyn District Council would like to invite artists to respond to the opportunity to explore the intersection of Science, Technology and Art. With the aid of a 3D printer the artist will be asked to create a pop-up studio at Leeston Library, offering opportunities for the public to engage and interact with the art in progress through artists talk(s) and workshop(s). It is expected that the artist will use their time to explore and deepen their practice, while leaving a legacy piece for the library, responding to the modern library environment and reflecting the symbolism of Aotearoa New Zealand.
The residency will take place in May, 2019 at our Leeston library.
The library will:
Provide a workspace
Provide communications support (residency promotion and documentation)
Provide access to wifi network, chromebook computers and 3D printers
Pay an artists fee up to the value of $1500 (to include materials).
The artist will:
Occupy the workspace for at least 80% of the available time
Be available for public interaction and conversation for all time present at the workspace.
Produce at least one public workshops or artist talk (to be coordinated with the library team)
Produce a piece of work for permanent exhibition, to be retained by the library.
The artist and library will collaborate to create the best outcome for the community and will be supported by Arts, Culture and Heritage Selwyn District Arts Coordinator.
