The General Manager reports to the gallery owners and is responsible for:

  • Leading the sales team to meet monthly sales targets
  • Curating our annual exhibition schedule, plus other national/international exhibitions that showcase the work of our 26 Artists, including our annual pop-up at the vineyard of our prestige wine partner Craggy Range in Hawkes Bay
  • Active artist career development and mentoring
  • Tapping into their network of collectors, benefactors and patrons to support Sanderson’s 26 Artists
  • Managing our talented team of 5, delivering a 7 day a week premium retail experience in the Osborne Lane precinct, including regular evening exhibition openings on Tuesday evenings
  • Funding and award applications
  • Managing an annual advertising budget, and working our social media channels to their maximum potential
  • Writing articles and press releases, delivering floor talks, facilitating artist talks and studio tours
  • Curating and coordinating our attendance at Auckland, Sydney and Melbourne Art Fairs
  • Provision of the full suite of professional services provided by the Gallery, including delivery and installation of Artworks, consultations, framing advice, national and international freight services

The key skills you will need to be successful in this role include:       

  1. Exceptional relationship and people management skills
  2. Artwork sales skills and experience
  3. An arts related degree
  4. Gallery experience in a similar role 2-5 years
  5. A systematic and organised approach, with an absolute passion for what you do
  6. Proficient at Microsoft office suite, Xero, In-design and Photoshop
  7. Photography skills
  8. Full Drivers licence and experience driving a manual vehicle

This is a full time role, primarily Monday – Friday but with some weekend work required to cover other staff from time to time. Annual salary to be discussed depending on experience, plus sales incentives.
