School of English and Media Studies
Massey University, in conjunction with Palmerston North City Council and Square Edge Community Arts (Palmerston North), invites applications to join the School of English and Media Studies as Visiting Artist - Theatrical Director for a 12-week term during the period 11 November 2019 to 16 March 2020. Note this period encompasses two distinct parts, cast selection and commencement of rehearsals prior to Christmas, and continued rehearsals and production in the New Year leading up to the production.
The successful candidate's main focus over this period will be direction of the Manawatu Summer Shakespeare Festival which culminates in public performances in the Victoria Esplanade, Palmerston North, in early March 2020.
Performers and production team are drawn from Massey students and staff, and members of the Manawatu community.
We invite Directors to give us their expression of interest in one of the following plays:
- Romeo and Juliet
- Twelfth Night
- A Mid-Summer Night's Dream
The Visiting Artist will also have the opportunity to:
- develop and progress his/ her own work
- work with distance (extramural) students at contact courses held during the contract period
- work closely with staff and students within the School
- provide workshops/ presentations for the Manawatu Community.
The Visiting Artist will receive a salary of NZ$10,000 and rent-free use of a downtown flat after 23 December 2019 by negotiation.
