Basement Theatre is Auckland’s culture-defining powerhouse - home to an artistic mixtape of theatre makers, dancers, visual artists, poets, musicians, comedians and everyone in between. We are looking for enthusiastic and friendly volunteers to usher shows all year round.

Volunteer usher tasks:

  • Greeting patrons and checking tickets prior to the performance beginning

  • Counting audience numbers, and opening and closing doors to the performance space

  • Keeping an eye on audience members and intervening where necessary

  • Letting Basement Theatre staff know if there are any issues in the performance space

  • In the event of a fire, assisting to evacuate audience from the space

  • Watching the show!

  • Collecting glasses at the end of the performance

No experience is necessary, only a friendly attitude and a desire to see theatre and be involved at Basement Theatre. The pros of course are that you get see shows for free! And get to experience the inner workings of Auckland’s most humming theatre. Our ushers also receive a free drink at the bar after they have completed their ushering shift.

Hours are flexible, and volunteers simply sign up for shows that work around their schedule. All new ushers will be invited to attend an induction and get-together.

How to apply

If you’re interested in becoming a volunteer usher at Basement Theatre, please email info@basementtheatre.co.nz for further information and to be added to our volunteer usher database.
