For over 80 years, Showbiz Christchurch has been one of the leaders of the local entertainment industry, producing a wide range of world-class musicals including recently Phantom of the Opera, Les Misérables, Wicked, We Will Rock You and Mamma Mia to name a few. This not-for-profit organisation, is run as an SME, engaging professional artistic personnel to direct, design and produce the shows whilst offering opportunities for volunteers to take part and develop skills. Showbiz is now one of the leading musical theatre organisations in the country and heavily involved in developing the industry nation-wide.
With a busy schedule of shows planned across the next 2 years and beyond, the General Manager will be responsible for the overall commercial performance and success of the organisation. Reporting to the Board, this autonomous role will lead a team of permanent and contract staff alongside volunteers and will be responsible for the development and implementation of a vision and strategic plan. The General Manager will also be expected to build the organisation’s profile through the development of strategic relationships.
Candidates will ideally have a knowledge and passion for live theatre with broad experience in performing arts management. Well-rounded financial and leadership skills are required with proven experience in building revenue streams, along with the energy and vision to lead the organisation to new opportunities and successes.
